Post-Summer Playlisting

Now that summer is well and truly over, and we're nearly at the end of September, I thought I would share some of the amazing songs and artists I've discovered in recent months. Thanks to the iOS 10 update, my Apple Music is finally starting to recommend songs that aren't already in my library and most of them have been pretty darn good recommendations. These aren't all "new" songs but they're what I'm listening to at the moment.

Free - Broods

It was so hard to pick just one Broods song as their whole discography is excellent. I chose Free because the chorus is one of my favourite pieces of music ever. It's so good I haven't even got words to describe it. You just have to listen.

The Great Divide (Crash Cove Remix) - Rebecca Black

For this one I need you to press play, close your eyes and forget that this is the same person responsible for "Friday." This song shows that she really does have good vocals. The original version of this song is epic too - I just like the beat drop in this one! Rebecca is a YouTuber as well as a singer, and her channel is really good for song recommendations, a lot of my new music comes from her "Songs That Will Change Your Life" segment!

Fell in the Sun - Big Grams

Although summer is gone for another year, we all need a nice reminder of happy sunny days every now and again and this is exactly what this song is. This song is from the collaborative album by Big Boi and Phantogram, if you're a fan of either artist, it's worth listening to.

Castle - Halsey

I must've been hiding under a rock for a while, because I've only just discovered Halsey. And what a discovery it has been. This track is dark, moody and it features in The Huntsman Winter's War. Not to mention it has a choir chorus, and I love me a choir chorus. Her album "Badlands" will be on a loop for a while yet.

Let Me Hold You (Turn Me On) - Cheat Codes and Dante Klein

This track is an up-cycled version of "Turn Me On" by Kevin Lyttle which came out way back in 2003 and it's just as good the second time around.

Oceans by Coasts

I feel like this song is what would happen if Two Door Cinema Club had a baby with Bastille. I'm absolutely dying to hear this live, so if they're touring, let me know.

Ultraviolet - Dagny

Dagny's Ultraviolet EP is bursting with energy and amazing indie-pop moments so once again picking just one track has been so hard. This particular track is about meeting someone new, liking them and having the fear because you think they're too good to be true. I can't listen to this song without wanting to get up and dance.

California Bound - Carolina Liar

This song wouldn't have been out of place on The OC soundtrack, it's another guitar-heavy summer beachy song and I'm not even sorry.

Seeing Stars - BØRNS

I accidently stumbled upon this track while I was trapped in a YouTube blackhole a few nights ago and I'm so glad I did. This one is a feel-good catchy number and I promise it'll be stuck in your head after the first listen.

Somebody Else - Verite

My favourite thing about this song is that the chorus is really upbeat, but when you listen to the lyrics, they're actually quite heartbreaking and sad. Such deception.

Gossip - XYLØ

I think everyone has been in the situation where they've been the subject of some kind of untrue story or gossip, and this is basically what this song is about. I love love love the beat in this track and I can't wait to download everything else that XYLO have ever released. I haven't been able to find a link to embed but the song is on iTunes and Apple Music so go check it out!

Superdope - Will.I.Am ft CL

I am absolutely at a loss with this song. I've loved it since the minute I heard the snippit of it in the EE advert but I haven't been able to download it anywhere. The closest I've got so far is this link, but I can't find a way to actually download or save it. Let me know if you're a whizz at this. It's catchy as hell and I need it in my ears.

Starving - Hailee Steinfeld and Grey ft Zedd

This one is no surprise because I've loved every single song that Hailee Steinfeld has put out. Starving isn't quite the upbeat party anthem that "Love Myself" was, but it's still pretty damn good.  This song starts quite chilled and vibe-y but when the beat drops I can't help but smile every time I hear it.

As always, if you know any songs or artists that you think I'd like, PLEASE share in the comments below or tweet me @MsMegan91  I will listen to every single suggestion.

GDL Clothing - Genderless Clothing Mini-Haul

Well folks, once again it's been a while. I'm going to make some changes to my blog. I'll still be posting about make-up and beauty etc but I'd also like to include some opinion pieces and some posts about places I've been and experiences I've had etc etc. I know this is going to make for a bit of a mish-mash but I fancied a change.

I wanted to share with you a really awesome company that I've recently ordered from. This is not a sponsored post, I bought all of these clothes myself, I just loved them so much that I wanted to share them with you.

They're a UK-based company called GDL Clothing and they make "unisex fashion based on style not gender." I really dislike the idea of boxing ANYTHING off based on gender. I like shopping at Topshop, I like shopping at Topman and I don't think there's anything wrong with that. Being able to buy anything on the site without having to follow gender-specific signage really appealed to me and I hope that more companies and brands start to follow suit.

I first heard about this brand through singer Lucy Spraggan. She wore their clothes on tour and posted about them on Instagram (and I used her discount code when I was buying these, cheeky!) I actually ended up buying the same long-sleeved top that she's wearing in this photo. I'm not even sorry. It was £18.00 and I bought the size Extra Small.

I also got these two tank tops which I think I'm going to alternative between day and night at Belfast Pride next weekend and also when I go to Santa Ponsa in a few weeks time. These were £17.00 each, I got them both in the size Small and they're a perfect comfy fit.

All of the clothes I bought are extremely versatile
and they'll look great with leggings, jeans, shorts and pretty much anything else.

My products arrived in less than a week and in perfect condition. The quality of all of the clothes are excellent and definitely worth every penny. I can't wait to try out some of the accessories in their range and their new lines of "basics" which launched very recently.

If you like what you see, check out their website:

As I mentioned earlier, I'm really looking forward to Belfast Pride next Saturday (6th August) I'm hoping to attend as many other Pride events this week as possible, starting with Pride Talks Back at the MAC Theatre on Monday night. If you see me, come say hi :)

Until next time...

My Recent Favourites

It's been a while since I've done a favourites post so instead of doing "April favourites" or "May favourites" I've put everything in together this time around. Let me know what your current faves are by tweeting me @MsMegan91 or by leaving a comment below!

MakeUp Products

This one is probably no surprise. Beauty YouTubers have been going crazy over this for a while now but I only just bought it last weekend when I ran out of my usual primer. I have found that it's definitely worth the hype. The only thing I don't like about this is the "man smell" but it goes away within a few seconds. When you apply this to the skin it becomes tacky and your make-up sticks to it all day. I particularly like this version as it's for sensitive skin and doesn't cause breakouts!

I've wanted a Kylie lip-kit for so long but I always miss them and they sell out. I managed to get this one on Depop. Quite a few people are selling them on there, at a first glance it looks like you're paying way more for them but don't forget that shipping from America makes them cost a lot more than the $18 price tag! I bought "King K" because I've never seen another lip colour like it. It's definitely not one that I would wear on a day-to-day basis but it's amazing for a night out. It lasts a long time too, so you don't need to constantly top it up. I've been wearing it with a nude lip liner (make sure it matches your skin as closely as possible!) I will hopefully be getting more of these lip kits soon - Reign is next on my list!

Another liquid lipstick that I've been loving is the shade "16" by Inglot. Inglot recently opened a stand in Castle Court in Belfast and I'm SO excited about it. Their products are very high quality and I'm so glad I won't have to trek down to Dublin to get it anymore! Again, I wear this shade with a nude lipliner and then put the liquid lipstick OVER it to make my lips look fuller. Unlike King K, this one is perfect to wear to work, uni, college etc.

Hair Product

You'll see in my picture later on in this post, I recently got my hair dyed dark red. My hairdresser always uses this Schwarzkopf Silhouette Hair Mousse on my hair to keep my curls tight and under control. If you're in the Bangor (Northern Ireland) area I would definitely recommend Karin at Central Cutz, she's been doing my hair since I was no age. I apply this while my hair is still damp - so it dries into tight curls.I found this product quite hard to get hold of though, most drugstores don't have it but I managed to get it in Sally's.

Body Product

I managed to get this Victoria's Secret body lotion in Pure Seduction at TK Maxx recently. As with most Victoria's Secret products, the scent is TO DIE FOR and it leaves your skin feeling really soft and refreshed.

I wore this on a night out with my friends earlier this month. The waistcoat is Fleur East for Lipsy and the leather leggings are also by Lipsy. My white top is actually borrowed from my mum's wardrobe (oops!) and my wedge trainers were from Internationale.

TV Series

I am obsessed with the new ITV series, The Secret. It's a four-part series, the first two episodes have already been shown but, fear not, they're available on catch-up through the ITV/UTV player depending on where you live. It's based on a real-life murder case and if it doesn't make your skin crawl, there's something very wrong. I don't want to spoil it too much for people who haven't been watching but I would 100% recommend it. It's always nice to see TV series from Northern Ireland doing well.

I picked up this Rhubarb and Plum scented candle by The Elemental Company at a vintage fair recently. It smells absolutely amazing and I've already burnt over half of it. I will definitely be repurchasing this along with some of their other scents. Check out their Facebook page here.

The Make-Up Tag!

I am back! It's been a while but I thought I would do The Make-Up Tag to get things kick-started again.

1. Do you remember your first makeup item?
I don't remember my first specific item but everything from my first "make-up bag" were bits and pieces from Avon that my mum didn't want anymore!
2. Describe your perfect mascara. Have you found one that fits your specifications?
I struggle with mascara but I have to say my favourite of all time is the L'Oreal Telescopic mascara. I love the Younique 3D Fibre Lash as well but it requires more effort than a regular mascara.

3. What kind of coverage do you prefer from foundation?
I like full coverage,  I have a mis-matched skin tone and I'm prone to spots/acne so full coverage is my preference.

4. Favorite high end brand?
Urban Decay for eyeshadow and MAC for everything else!

5. What cosmetic brands have you always wanted to try but still haven't?
MakeUp Forever and Charlotte Tillbury.

6. Favorite drugstore brand?
L'Oreal, Make-Up Revolution and Freedom MakeUp.

7. Do you wear fake eyelashes?
Only for nights out and special occasions.

8. Is there any kind of makeup you can't leave the house without?
Foundation, mascara and lipstick.

9. What is your most cherised beauty product?
My Urban Decay Vice 4 palette and my ColorPop Lippie Stick in the shade Tootsi.

10. How often do you shop for makeup? Do you like to pick up an item here and there or get lots of goodies at once?
I'm always shopping for make-up. Everytime I'm in town I'm always picking up new bits and pieces. I feel less bad getting one or two things at a time.

11. Do you have a "beauty budget" or you spend freely?
I used to spend freely but now my collection is getting a bit crazy so I'm trying to rein it in.

12. Do you utilize coupons, rewards cards and sales when you shop for cosmetics?
I have Boots Rewards card and a Superdrug BeautyCard. Make-Up Revolution do amazing coupon codes as well so they're well worth looking out for.

13. What type of product do you buy the most of?
Eyeshadows - I have a ridiculous amount of eyeshadows!

14. Is there a brand that you absolutely can't stand?
I can't think of one that I "can't stand"  - it's usually individual products that I don't like - not the brands as a whole.

15. Do you avoid certain ingredients in cosmetics like parabens or sulfates?
It’s always a plus when something doesn’t have these ingredients, but I don’t avoid them as long as I like the product.

16. Do you have a favorite place to shop for makeup?

17. Do you like trying new skincare products or do you keep a certain routine?I'm so bad at skincare I don't even have a routine

18. Favorite bath and body brand?
Victoria's Secret

19. If you could only buy from one brand, which brand would you choose?

20. What brand do you think has the best packaging?
Benefit - hands down!

21. Which celebrity always has great makeup?
Kylie Jenner.

22Do you belong to any online makeup communities?
Yes I'm a member of Blended !

23. 5 Favorite Beauty Gurus

24. Do you like multifunctional products like lip and cheek stains?
No - I don't trust things with more than one purpose!

25. Are you clumsy in putting makeup?
Not usually, it's mainly my eyeliner that lets me down.

26. Do you use makeup base/primer for the eyes?
Yes! I recently tried the Urban Decay Primer Potion and I don't understand how I ever used anything else.

27. How many hair products do you use on a typical day?
Shampoo and conditioner....and then my Schwarzkopf Silhouette Hair Mousse to keep my curls in place.

28. What do you apply first, concealer or foundation?
Foundation always.

29. Do you ever consider taking makeup classes?
Yes, I would love to but they're pretty pricey -  I will do a course eventually but right now I'm sticking with YouTube.

30. What do you love about makeup?
Everything - I love being able to be creative and if I want to, make myself look like a totally different person. I love learning new techniques, trying new products and finding out what works for me.

US Product Haul

Before we all get too excited, I haven’t been to the States (yet!). I used a company called GoSend to import all of these products to the UK for a cheaper price. A full post about GoSend and how to use it will be up in a few days time!

I absolutely love getting my hands on products that are hard to come by. I mainly got beauty products in this haul but I’ve included my non-beauty items at the bottom of this post.

The first place I shopped at was Ulta, and from there I bought 2 items from NYX. I know you can buy NYX in the UK now through the Boots website but it’s still cheaper in America.  And at the time, ULTA had a buy-one-get-one –half-price offer on all NYX products so it worked out even cheaper.

I got the NYX Highlight and Contour Pro palette which I’ve been lusting over for a long time for $24.99 (£16.77). I’ve seen so many YouTubers and bloggers raving about this, and it works out much cheaper than the coveted Anastasia contour palette.  You get a huge amount of product for the price you pay, so I can see this palette lasting a very long time. Even if you do run out of your favourite shade, the pans in this palette can be popped in and out, so  they're all replaceable. So far I’m loving this, the pale shade in the top left is a great highlight and the banana colour is perfect for setting my concealer under my eyes.  At the moment I’m using the bottom left for contouring my own face, but the three other ones I’m going to use for doing other people’s make-up so I’ll have a use for them all.

I also got the NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in the shade “Milk”. I’ve seen lots of people use this as a base for eyeshadow and it really does make colours "pop" and appear more pigmented. These retail at $5.99 (around £4.19) but as I said, I got it as part of a buy-one-get-one-half-price deal so I got it for $3.00.

The next place I shopped at was Beauty Joint. They sell products by lots of well-known drugstore and not-quite-high –end brands.

The first thing I got from Beauty Joint is the LA Girl Concealer in Porcelain. One of my favourite YouTubers, DramaticMAC uses this concealer and loves it so I wanted to give it a go myself.  I got it for $2.99. If anyone knows where I can get this in the UK, please let me know. I’m an official convert. As I've said before, I love really light under-eyes and this is as light as it gets!

I also got this 12-piece Morphe Brushes Travel Kit for $24.99. I am always on the go and spend most of my weekends gallivanting elsewhere so the fact that these brushes come in a case is so handy. I’m really impressed with the quality of these brushes and would definitely consider buying more from Morphe.

The next thing I got was on the recommendation of another YouTuber I love, SophDoesNails.  She listed the NYC Loose Translucent Powder as one of her holy grail products in one of her recent videos and I'm really looking forward to trying this out.

My final beauty stop is COLORPOP! I couldn't do a US haul without checking these folk out because they're all over YouTube and Instagram. I got a "Lippie Stick" in the shade "Tootsi" with the matching lip pencil. I also got one of their Ultra Matte liquid lipsticks in the shade "LAX". Their website recommended the "Creature" lip pencil to match it, and I think it's a pretty good combination. Finally I got this beautiful eyeshadow "Porter".

As you can see from my swatches, all of these products are hyper-pigmented and they're SO cheap. I really hope they start shipping to the UK soon because I want the whole collection!

The lovely folk at Colorpop also sent me this adorable thank-you card and a little booklet showing you how best to use all of their best-selling products, which I think is a really great idea, especially for beginners.

At Victoria’s Secret I got this beautiful stripy jumper. I ordered this in their Semi-Annual Sale and thanks to GoSend, I also had a further 20% off coupon to use, so I managed to get this reduced from RRP and even further with my coupon. It looks massive in the photo, and that's because it's the baggiest slumpiest jumper I own and I'm totally in love with it.

Finally I got a three-wick candle from Bath and Body Works. I’ve heard so much about that shop that I just HAD to get something. My favourite Yankee Candles are Pink Dragonfruit and Mango-Peach Salsa, so when I saw this Mango and Dragonfruit candle, I couldn’t not buy it. As soon as I took it out of the box, before I even lit it, my whole room smelled like this candle. It's amazing.

My February Favourites

As we draw to the end of February (where the heck did that go?!)  I decided to share the things I’ve been loving this month, beauty and otherwise!

Beauty - Beauty Blender

I picked one of these up in Space NK to see what all the fuss is about. I was skeptical, how can a little sponge be so expensive and so hyped.  I had previously bought the Real Techniques sponge because it was way cheaper, but this is one product where you’re better to invest and buy the original. By applying your foundation using a “bouncing” motion on a damp Beauty Blender, it leaves your skin looking airbrushed. For me, foundation brushes are now a thing of the past. And it comes with a special soap to keep it clean.

Perfume - Michael Kors "Glam Jasmine"

My favourite one this month is Glam Jasmine by Michael Kors. I got it for Christmas from my friend and I’ve been keeping it as my “evenings and weekends” scent because I don’t think I’ll be able to afford to replace it when it’s done!

I got this Harry Potter necklace from the KawaiiCandyCouture stand at St Georges Market in Belfast for £7.00, but you can order from their Etsy Store here.

This is partly my favourite because it’s Harry Potter and partly because I’ve had some awesome conversations with total strangers, starting with them commenting on my necklace.

TV Show – Private Practice

As a hardcore Greys Anatomy fan, it’s not surprising that I love the spin-off. The series follows Addison after she leaves Seattle for LA and her journey in her new practice. I’m currently binge-watching Season 3 out of 6 and  I don’t know what I’m going to do with my life once it’s over. While it’s nice to see Grey’s characters and actors dropping in from time to time, it’s definitely not essential to have watch Greys Anatomy first. Some of the storylines in Private Practice are even more shocking than the ones in Greys, I would definitely recommend it.

Song – Exes and Ohs by Elle King

I haven ‘t much to say about this song other than it’s been stuck in my head all month!

Coffee Shop – Sinnamon

I’ve been going here for a while now because it’s so near my house. The food is amazing and the staff in there are really pleasant. I would highly recommend the Pizza Panini, it’s life-changing!

Candle - Our Own Candle Company "Hot Chocolate"

I got this for Christmas from my parents. It's probably one of the nicest candles I've ever had, and the smell lasts for hours. I know you can get these in Creative Gardens in a range of scents but this is my favourite one.

10 Beauty Products Under £10!

Seeing as it's the beginning of the year and we're all still broke from Christmas, here's my Top 10 Beauty Products that you can get your hands on for under £10.00! Don't forget to let me know your favourite beauty product under £10.00 by leaving a comment below or tweeting me @MsMegan91

Seventeen Foundation - £6.99

I got this foundation on offer in Boots over the Christmas holidays for £3.50 so I had to try it. It's a full coverage foundation and I absolutely love it. I bought "Fair" but it's available in a number of other shades so there should be one to match your skin tone. I will definitely be buying it again because even at the regular price, it's a total bargain.

Make-Up Revolution Translucent Powder - £2.00

I couldn't get a good picture of this one as the name on the packing has worn away, and as you can see I've hit pan. I would consider this powder one of my holy grail products because it creates a lovely matte finish and I hate looking shiny. I always use this to set my foundation and concealer and I would rank this powder way above any higher-end ones that I've tried.

Freedom Pro-Studio Primer - £6.00

I tend to lean towards water-based products because they feel like they're better for your skin (this might be total rubbish but it makes me feel good) I previously used a silicone based primer but I think I'll be sticking with this from now on.

Freedom Pro-Studio Brush Bath - £7.00

I find cleaning my make-up brushes to be so therapeutic, there's something really satisfying about watching your brushes go from covered in make-up to squeaky clean. This product from Freedom makes cleaning brushes so easy. It's basically a hard soap, you can see that mines a bit stained around the edges from excessive use! All you have to do is damp your brushes in a glass of water, swirl them around in the soap until it lathers and then pat them dry with some kitchen roll. The soap leaves your brushes as if they were brand new.  For the price, you get a huge amount of product, I can see this lasting forever!

L'oreal Color Riche L'Ombre Pure Eyeshadow in "Gold Mania" - £5.49

What a mouthful! I don't normally buy single eyeshadows as I'm more into palettes but this is fabulous. When I wear this eyeshadow, I prefer to pack it on with my fingers instead of a brush because it makes the colour appear more intense. The eyeshadow itself is a creamy, buttery formula which glides on like a dream. This could be used on its own or with other shadows to add shimmer to your look.

Batiste "Frizz No More" Frizz Tamer - £4.49

I might be clutching at straws to call this a beauty product but it's going in the list anyway. Batiste are best known for their dry shampoo, which I used anyway, so I was keen to try the rest of their hair care range. I use this most days as my curly hair has the tendency to go frizzy ALL the time. It's completely inexpensive and you just spray it on the frizzy section of dry hair and problem solved! It smells really good too.

New Look Pure Colour Lipstick in "Plum" - £3.99

I can't believe the quality of this lipstick for just £3.99, especially when it's a brand from what's normally a clothing store. This lasted nearly all day on me and I will definitely be going back to get more shades.

New Look Pure Colour Dark Purple Lipliner  - £1.99

I got this lipliner to match the Plum lipstick. I can't wait to try the rest of the New Look make-up range if these are anything to go by. Buying the two of these together cost just shy of £6.00, whereas in the likes of MAC you'd be spending around £30.00 for a lipstick and matching lipliner.

W7 Eyebrow Stencils  - £2.00 (I got mine in Peacocks)

If you're like me, 1) Not good at eyebrows  2) not enthralled at the idea of spending hours perfecting the technique either -  these are PERFECT for you. In the pack you get 4 stencils, with different "arches" - you just put the stencil over your brows and fill them in with your chosen product. I use Benefits "Brow Zings". It does take a little bit of practice keeping the stencils in place but it's worth it when you nail it.

L'Oreal Lumi Magique Concealer - £8.49

This concealer is the budget version of the super-popular Touch Eclat from YSL. I use it as a highlighter instead of a concealer, the coverage isn't heavy enough to cover dark circles but it does an amazing job of brightening your under-eyes after you apply concealer first. It's a brush applicator which is great, and then I just pat the product into my skin using a Beauty Blender.

Review - Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in "Shame"

I recently picked up this lipstick in House of Fraser for £15.50. I had been looking for a dark reddish/purple shade because I don't have a lot of "winter" lipsticks. I would describe "Shame" as a deep berry colour. I've been looking at some other reviews of this lipstick and it's really interesting to see how it shows up on different skin tones.

The Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick collection consists of 24 shades and they're all available online from the Urban Decay website  or in-store at Debenhams and House of Fraser (UK only)

In terms of packaging, the tube is silver and very slick. It seems pretty sturdy so it can come in the handbag on a night out.  The only negative that I've experienced is that due to the flat shape of the lipstick within the tube, it's quite hard to apply on the lips without a lip brush but once it's on it looks fantastic.

I've been pairing this with the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On lip pencil in the shade "Venom" (£13.50) and I've found it to be a perfect match.

As with their eyeshadows; Urban Decay lipsticks are SO pigmented and they stay on for hours. Even when it does start to show some fading at the end of the day, you're still left with a decent stain on the lips. The formula is so buttery, which leaves your lips feeling hydrated which is exactly what you need in the cold weather!

Overall I would definitely recommend this lipstick. It's my first Urban Decay lip product but now I look forward to trying some of their other shades.

Let me know what you think of this lipstick, or if you've tried any others from their Revolution Lipstick range by leaving a comment below or tweeting me @MsMegan91.

23. What’s your most listened to song on iTunes?
I actually had to re-set my iTunes recently so it's not accurate. But since the re-set it's Do It Again by Pia Mia.

23. What kind of style would you define yourself as having?
I don’t think I have a particular style. Some days I'm really girly and wear floral prints, then somedays I like sporty-casual and then some days I just unleash my inner Taylor Momsen.

24. What was the last thing you bought?
Some colouring pencils.

25. Are you going to nominate anyone to do this tag?
Indeed I am. I’m going to nominate my friend Rachael from Sugarlumps and Lucky Charms.
